Day 7

I've decided that I should chronicle the next several weeks with this coronavirus thing going on. Memory tends to fade after a while, so I'd like to be able to look back to jog my memory about how this went. This is day 7 of voluntary isolation, although it's not exactly isolation. They've asked people who have non-essential jobs to stay home, meaning non-essential to the world. In other words health care people are needed of course, police, some other services. Restaurants are open and only serving takeout or delivery. They're asking.. well not exactly asking as it sounds like they could actually prosecute if this rule is not followed... that not more than 10 people at any given time be in a building. Grocery stores are exempt from that. I worked last week, but we had to congregate outside the building to get our assignments. I decided to take the next week off. At the end of this next week, I'll evaluate how things are going and decide if I'm going to work the following week. If all goes as they're predicting, I may not work for awhile! They make it sound as if it's going to be disastrous within the next couple of weeks. I'm hopeful that they're grossly exaggerating...

And since I'm going to be home a lot, I'm going to talk about how my plants are doing. I've already done quite a bit of propagating so far and plan to do more. I chopped up my meliflua and potted up the cuttings to sell. I've got a lot of other stuff that I propagated last fall that's all well rooted. I'm just waiting for them to start growing. My plan for tomorrow is to evaluate the ones from last fall and see what's ready to offer.

Inconspicua finally has an umble open...

Such a cutie! It hangs in my bathroom window and seems perfectly happy to get bright, reflected light off the house next door.

Also in that window is my callistrophylla. It's been a problem child for me for the last couple of years, and has a tendency to put on new leaves that grow out a bit and then promptly dry up and fall off. Well, today I took it down to water it I found three obvious new leaves!...

Also growing like crazy is my surigaoensis, which has three new growth points. I can't wait for those now small leaves to turn into the giant leaves that are so typical of this plant...

Notice that the middle one has a little vine growing. I suppose the others will have vines eventually, I assume, but right now it's just concentrating on the two single leaves. If you look close, you can see a hint of bronze in the leaves signifying they are slightly sun-kissed. It sits in the spare bedroom getting the same bright reflected light as the ones in the bathroom.
