Succulent Ramblings

I like to ramble on about my plants... and other things! My hope is to log the progress of plants and talk about my frustrations with others. So, tune in, turn on, or drop out (if you find it boring!)

I started this one on Mom's 71st birthday (4/22)...

We're taking her to breakfast in awhile, but thought I would get started on some updates to what's happening with my plants...

My first buds finally opened on micrantha, the sweet smallish Hoya I got from Tom Bruning a few years ago.  Here's the plant...

It's a pretty little thing - the leaves are max about 2" long and have a very stiff, hard and rough texture.  It's a viner and grows pretty fast.  I finally got some peduncles on the one in my bedroom and one started budding up a couple months ago, but was very slow.  Well, it finally opened a couple days ago and here's what they look like...
The entire flower spur isn't more than 1" across, so these are some very tiny blooms!  Last night, I made it a point to smell them late in the evening and they have a very faint, sweet smell.  Very nice!

I found an open flower spur on my brevialata while watering today - the small one.  That probably means both will be flowering soon.  They're such pretty little flowers:

...Almost as small as micrantha, but I've never noticed any scent at all.  It's not one of my favorite Hoyas, but when it blooms, it's certainly a cute one.

I repotted H. pubicalyx 'Royal Hawaiian Purple' into a much bigger pot.  It's been looking a little dehydrated (the older leaves) and has been hard to keep watered.  The other pubicalyx cultivars, 'Red Buttons' and 'Bright One', could also use a repotting.  Right now, 'Red Buttons' (the one in the GH) is budding up, so I'll wait until it's done to repot.

I've sold some Hoyas - sent out a package on Friday to Kathy, a lady in Colorado.  And I'll be sending out some more to Jan in Florida and Tami, who I think is in Utah or Idaho.  That gives me a little dough to get some new ones of my own, so I'm calling Gardino's today with an order.  I'm getting camphorfolia (which I tried before), finlaysonii (which I have a small cutting of from last year - want to add to it), obscura aff. 'Philip' (this is the beautifully sun-kissed clone), and two memorias (I lost my cutting from GreedyGhost).  Later on, I may get some cuttings from Joni - we'll see how things go.  My issue with space is growing...

My biggest macrophylla has new growth points.  The one in the bedroom, however, is still dormant.  Everything else in there seems to be growing, so I'm thinking it's just a matter of time... Have to run!
